The PRIMORDIAL RING is a fascinating depiction of prehistoric hieroglyphics. Before the ancient Egyptians, the Sumerians were the pioneers of written communication. They developed the earliest known writing system called Cuneiform, which was originally used to write the Sumerian language in southern Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq).

The invention of writing can be traced back to the Neolithic era, following the development of pottery. Early engravings consisted of pictographic shapes depicting animals, symbols and numbers. The first inscribed tablets were purely pictographic, making it challenging to determine the specific language they were written in. While various languages have been proposed, Sumerian is generally assumed.

During the time when writing was invented, there were significant interactions between Egypt and Mesopotamia. The standard understanding of the development of writing places the development of the Sumerian proto-cuneiform script before the emergence of Egyptian hieroglyphs.

The PRIMORDIAL RING is hand-sculpted and engraved with a representation of a branch and an angelic figure influenced by Akkadian art. The artist, Rafael Indiana, meticulously carves each ring from wax, resulting in a unique piece that exudes an authentic ancient beauty.

Every Rafael Indiana product is handcrafted by artisans in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, from wax making each piece unique. We believe it gives the product its authentic ancient beauty. Every design comes with a unique story.
