In the Byzantine Empire, the first born daughter to a royal father had become Empress was given the name of Epiphania (from the greek - born in purple). Extremely rare, purple in the Byzantine Empire became the color of the imperial family. The empress gave birth to her children in the purple room of the Great Palace of Constantinople, allowing her kids to literally be born in purple.
