The PANTHERA amulet. This cameo relief is hand carved onto Persian Turquoise stone. It is a depiction of a winged lion or also know as a Panthera lion. The scientific name for lions is Panthera leo. The genus Panthera is of Greek origin and comprises of all big cat species such as tigers, lions, jaguars, and leopards that have the ability to roar.
A symbol of power and might, the Panthera lion is also an important symbol of Persian mythology. Physical power is an important factor providing power in societies that have lived as hunters and nomads for a long time. The winged lion is a protective talisman against evil, believed to be endowed with special powers to protect or bring good fortune.
