The GLAUCUS necklace is hand engraved onto multi-colored mother of pearl. The intricate intaglio engraving depicts the mythical character Glaucus, a Greek sea divinity. The name Glaucus translates to “bluish green” and “glimmering” in Greek. Glaucus, also known as Glaucus Pontius, originally a fisherman and diver from Boeotia. Legend has it that he ate a magical herb and transformed into a god, gaining the gift of prophecy.
As a prophetic sea-god, Glaucus was believed to come to the aid of sailors and fishermen during storms. He had a deep connection to the sea, as he had earned a living from it before his transformation. Although he became immortal, Glaucus was not immune to aging.
Carved onto natural mother-of-pearl shell, which is known for its association with prosperity and mystical properties. It has been used in ancient talismans and mystical work to enhance intuition, psychic sensitivity, and imagination.
